Ideas and Suggestions for Leaflet

Leaflet UserVoice is a place for you to show support for your favorite feature and improvement suggestions for Leaflet.

  • Please don’t add duplicates of existing ideas.
  • Please don’t report issues with map data — they have nothing to do with Leaflet and will be declined. It uses OpenStreetMap on the website examples.
  • If you need to report a bug, please use GitHub issues instead.

Leaflet will become even better if you add …

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Add method to determine if a point is contained by a polygon

    It would be useful to be able to determine if a point is contained within a polygon.

    Right now one can do a contains check against a layer's bounds, but this results incorrect results if the layer is a polygon which is not a perfect rectangle following the N/S E/W axis.

    • Map wide time support

      There should be time support synchronized for all layers displayed on the map. This would also enable time based animations of layers.

      For example display WMS weather forecast. There could be an animation showing a layer for cloud cover and another one for precipitation for the next 48 hours.

        • Layer Control Interface, grouped layers, with 'accordion' menu like

          This necessity is due to a project qith many options of layers and to not over populate the Layer Controls with too many layer options it would be great to group this layers like an accordion menu like, to let the interface show only few options.

          I already made an alteraion on leaflet.js and made it, but I'm not a skilled developer, and also didn't manage to work trought with groupedlayercontrol plugin.

          The solution, considering I'm using leaflet wit R, I found was to set a symbol ('#') on the name of the layer to identify a group existence. The…

          • Add a setTitle() method to Marker

            I can find no way to dynamically update the title for a marker after it's been created. Changing options.title followed by a call to update() doesn't seem to work. Thank you!

            • Make layer control docs/example clearer about which layer is shown initially

              When there is multiple base layers, one is only visible, but all are always loaded. Please optimise this this.

                When I move with Mouse a Marker towards a border, the map wuld scroll in background upwards or downards, depending where i go with the marker up or down. Google map has this feature whtin Route function. Doing so, the zoom ration can be larger

                • Layer Control panel with nested groups of layers (tree)

                  I have been using the plugins grouped layer control and styled layer control, but I often want to be able to have sub-categories of overlay layers - much like the way a program like ArcGIS allows --- for example, if my main layer categories are Basemaps, Adminstrative Boundaries, Demographics, Transportation, I would like to be able to have a Race/Ethnicity subgroup, with "Percent non-hispanic white", "Percent non-hispanic black", etc, and also an "Income subgroup" with multiple layers. The key is that they would be all be branches under the "Demographic" tree, and could be easily minimized so as to not…

                    Identica works well in Google maps but Twitter locations are not specific when displayed (appear as polygons)?

                      • zoom & pan animation

                        I love the pan animation method, but I'd like it to also zoom to a particular zoom level during the same animation.

                        I've use Leaflet in a app where the map loads on a global level, and then as soon as the browser finds the user's location, it centers on his location at a tighter zoom. Would love to see this process animate.

                        • lineToLayer Method for L.GeoJson

                          I am using Leaflet.draw to place various Objects on a GeoJSON Layer. When a new object is added I extract the GeoJSON by using the toGeoJSON Method. After that I add some properties to the JSON, for example the radius of a circle, so I am later able to load the GeoJSON back into leaflet and create a circle instead of a marker. This happens with a callback function as the pointToLayer option on the L.GeoJSON class.

                          But I'm having a hard time doing the same thing for Rectangles, because there is no way to decide which Layer to create…

                          • An event on marker "drag halted"

                            Currently there are "dragend" which is fired when the user releases the mouse, and "drag" which is fired for every minimal change of a marker position. It would be useful to have an event fired when a user has stopped moving the marker, but has not released the mouse yet.

                            Usecase: I am building a map ( http://getpeers.com ) where users can find routes. When a user moves around a point on the route, the route should automatically update reflecting the new destination.

                            Why "drag" won't work: would send too many requests all at once.

                            • CRS mixup

                              Hi,

                              what really confused me yesterday was the mix of different CRS in the GeoJSON example. First, you have the background map, which uses EPSG:3857, then the GeoJSON, which needs to be in EPSG:4326. For me it was obvious, since the background map beeing in Web Mercator, the GeoJSON data need to be in Web Mercator too. I really had some struggle to make my points appear on the map.

                              Maybe there should be some more obvious hints in the documentation what kind of CRS is expected by default from each layer type.

                              Nevertheless, great product :-)

                              Frank

                                • ability to override tile loading procedure

                                  Right now it seems that all tiles are loaded from an address/file.
                                  It would be nice if one could override a file loading function (like in polymaps). This way one could generate tiles procedurally (like in this example: http://polymaps.org/ex/mandelbrot.html#1.00/0/0). Another use case would be if tiles are loaded out of some archive (like mbtiles) on the javascript side.

                                  I have a use case where most of my tiles are of a single color. I don't want to store any of them (on device) because they use 8KB per file, even if the file is only 103 bytes. If one…

                                    I'm new to web mapping and web in general. Even though I'm a starter I felt that I can do a lot with Leaflet, it was all smooth so far. I managed to add WMS, control different baselayers, add vector features, add a geojson file etc. I hit the wall when it comes to adding WMTS from getcapabilities link, I tried to follow leaflet.TileLayer.WMTS plugin but couldn't succeed. I wish we could just provide getcapabilities link and have WMTS on our page. It's hard for a beginner(2 weeks experience with javascript) to write the code down(or tweak IGN code) to…

                                      • Layers control click events

                                        Maybe it exists and I've missed it, but I'd like to see layers control clicks. This is to help me synchronize a rather rich sidebar, and hide/show elements there based on the user's layer selection.

                                        • An API function to close a popup. At the moment I'm using `popup._close()`

                                          Perhaps there are better ways entirely around it but here's a hack I'm currently using:

                                          var popup;

                                          popup = L.popup();
                                          map.on('click', function(event) {
                                          popup
                                          .setLatLng(event.latlng)
                                          .setContent($('#wanna-edit').html())
                                          .openOn(map);
                                          $('#map').on('keypress', function(e) {
                                          e.which == 0 && popup._close();
                                          });
                                          });
