Ideas and Suggestions for Leaflet

Leaflet UserVoice is a place for you to show support for your favorite feature and improvement suggestions for Leaflet.

  • Please don’t add duplicates of existing ideas.
  • Please don’t report issues with map data — they have nothing to do with Leaflet and will be declined. It uses OpenStreetMap on the website examples.
  • If you need to report a bug, please use GitHub issues instead.

Leaflet will become even better if you add …

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

    • Adding origin to events

I need to refresh some markers when the map has moved or zoomed but only if it’s coming from user interaction, not if I did it programmatically (calling map.setView, map.setZoom and so on).

What do you think about adding an attribute in triggered event to tell if it’s coming from user interaction or by an API call (like origin: user|api) ?

It doesn’t seems feasible in a plugin and would need changes in leaflet core. Would a pull request adding that event origin be integrated ?

        • More responsive scrollwheel zoom

The current implementation relies upon a setTimeout that fires performZoom after 50ms of scrollwheel idle. Particularly on an Apple Magic Mouse, this feels very laggy in practice.

The cheap solution is just to get rid of the timeout and call performZoom directly on every scrollwheel event. This is a bad way to go and I'm trying to think of a better solution.

It could be great to have an exemple of geocoding implemented with leaflet

            • Export behavior

I require the ability to save a map and all it's markers as a png file. I followed the instructions in the answer to this stack overflow question:

              http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9879597/leaflet-js-draw-pois-as-canvas

but the solution provided there is experimental (using the L_PREFER_CANVAS global variable) and not configurable at run time. The maps I am displaying use animation and circleMarkers to draw "pings" on the map. This animation occurs way too slowly with L_PREFER_CANVAS as a global, non-configurable value.

Ultimately, a method to export the map and all layers to a png file is the desired behavior.

                  • plugins update

I've switched from OpenLayers to Leaflet and I'm always on the lookout for new plugins as well as updated plugins. It would be cool if the plugins page had a last update column and maybe new plugins flagged some way. Wish I had the skills to contribute something like that. Maybe someday...

                    • Simple tutorial for multiple maps on same page

Yesterday I was attempting to get multiple leaflet maps working on the same page, and it took ages to get it working, because I didn't realise that each layer, polyline or marker can only be assigned to a single map. Obvious if you know the internal structure of how leaflet works, but it isn't stated clearly in the documentation.

Adding a simple new tutorial with just 2 maps, showing how you need to create separate layer objects for each map, and separate polylines, would be really helpful.

                                • a gestureHandling option to L.Map

Google Maps JS has a gestureHandling option which can be set to 'none', 'greedy', 'cooperative' or 'auto'.

Currently, Leaflet only has a 'greedy' mode where moving with one finger pans the map.
But when Leaflet is used as part of a scrolling page, this one finger panning interferes with page scrolling.

Google Maps' solution is to require two fingers to move the map when gestureHandling is 'cooperative'.

This would make Leaflet a no-brainer to embed in scrolling pages. I couldnt find plugins that enable this behaviour.

                                      • Mobile dragging/scrolling

Add an option to disable dragging when the bounds are met, instead of simply bouncing the map back within the bounds. This way, a fullscreen map on mobile can be scrolled through without the user getting stuck inside the map.

                                        • Bug found working with Hidden Div's

hello... i have worked four hours to resolve an issue with the map.
Basically, my map was shown with some tiles empty!
that is: on loaa the map had one tile shown, one tile transparent/empty, one shown, one trasparent/empty..
And often this happens in a random sequence.

After four hours of works, and searching , and trying...
                                          i got it!

                                          MAYBE
if the div with id="map" is contained
                                          in a hidden div (style="display:none")
the map is shown in a wrong way.
                                          As i described above.

This is the source code to let you understand:

                                          <div id="menu6" class="page" style="display:none;">
                                          <div id="map">…
