Support for WFS (Web Feature Service) layers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_Feature_Service
Should probably go into a plugin. Not for the core.

We have implemented WFST plugin here https://github.com/Flexberry/Leaflet-WFST
it support reading GML and GeoJSON data, and can send insert, update, delete WFST requests. Hope this will be helpful.
Projects working focused on OGC standards need to have this support. I think this will boost leaflet usage.
Again. Lack of this will make us use OL3. The existing stubs for plugins are not helpful.
It seems like this is the one thing that keeps many serious Map applications from using Leaflet.
For my part I like everything else better in Leaflet than OL, especially the plugin arch. So if WFS is a plugin - fine. Just make sure it interacts with WMS layers...
Thanks for this great lib.

Yes, this is the one reason we didn't go with Leaflet. OpenLayers gives you the room to grow.

I've started on a WFS-T plugin here: https://github.com/flatrockgeo/leaflet.wfs-t
It's currently alpha quality, but it's something.
This is one of the last features keeping me using OpenLayers. Thanks for your work on this.
+1 would be a great addition
+ A transactional Web Feature Service (WFS-T) allows creation, deletion, and updating of features.
This would be really great.
